New Teacher Orientation 2026

This page provides logistical information to all staff invited to attend Kativik Ilisarniliriniq’s 2026 Teacher Orientation, which will be taking place from Tuesday, August 4th to Friday, August 7th.
Kativik Ilisarniliriniq’s new teachers orientation is intended to deepen your understanding of the region, students and the support services, professionals and departments of the board who will be available to you during the year. There is also time for you to see the programs, materials and to start creating your initial teaching plan under the guidance of the Education Consultants. Most importantly, it’s an opportunity to meet your colleagues from across Nunavik.

🅿️ Parking and 🚌 Local Transportation
Parking
Parking is provided to teachers living within a 50 km area from the hotel and traveling daily. Pick up your ticket from the designated Education Services personnel announced at the event. You will not need a pass to enter the lot.
For those who are staying at the hotel, your room card can be used to leave the parking lot.
Local Transportation
To take the shuttle from the airport to the hotel, go to Door #8 – Departures level (one floor up) with your luggage. The Marriott shuttle travels from and to the airport every 30 minutes. To check on the shuttle schedule, call the Courtyard Marriott and Residence Inn: (514) 339-5333.
For any other transportation method, be sure to request a receipt in order to request reimbursement on your Social Travel Claim. More information can be found in the “Travel Claim” section below.

💲Compensation
Compensation
The orientation days (August 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th) will be paid for new teachers as it is highly recommended for your integration and onboarding at Kativik Ilisarniliriniq and to prepare you properly for the classroom and students.
Attendance will be taken every morning and afternoon at the Registration Tables.
Your travel day to Nunavik is not considered a work day and will not be paid for.
Compensation, calculated based on your attendance, will be included on one of your pay cheques in August or September. If you have not received the compensation by the end of September, you can reach out to pay (PaieKSB@kativik.qc.ca) for verification.

All Kativik Ilisarniliriniq’s new teachers should have received an email invitation from Sana Ahmed (Sana.Ahmed@kativik.qc.ca) to the orientation, along with information related to your stay at the hotel in Montreal and your travel dates to Nunavik.
Living Less than 50 km from away
Teachers living within 50 km of the hotel should only come to the hotel on Tuesday morning.
Living More than 50 km from away
Teachers living more than 50 km away from the hotel are invited to check in on the Monday evening. You may also visit the Kativik Teacher Orientation registration desk upon arriving at the hotel, either on the Monday evening (4:00-8:00 PM) or on the Tuesday morning (8:00-9:00 AM)
👧 Daycare
Daycare
Day care services for children 12 and under is available at the hotel. Please note that meals and snacks will not be provided for your children. You are responsible for the care of your children during lunch time.
Children at the daycare might use the indoor pool. Please bring any lifejacket or floatation device used by your children.
Day care services must be booked in advance, using the Orientation DaycareRegistrationForm. Priority will be given for those who book before June 30th.
Please complete the following form and bring it with you to the hotel, along with a piece of Identification. Paper copies will also be available at the hotel for you to complete on site.
🐕 Pets
Pets
If you are traveling with pets you must inform us in advance using the Orientation Logistics Forms. A pet-friendly room will be reserved for you on the Residence Inn side of the hotel and you will be charged a fee. Please note that you will be held responsible if your pet causes damage to your room. No pet care services are provided.
Also, if you are traveling with pets, it is extremely important to call the airlines, as soon as you receive your flight information to book a place for your pet on the flight. There is limited cargo space on some flights so the earlier the better.
🧳 Excess Baggage
Excess Baggage
Any excess baggage beyond your allocated amount from Air Inuit will be picked up at the hotel by the Kativik transportation team on Thursday, August 6th between 7:30 and 8:30 am to be shipped to the respective communities. They will be located in the hallway outside the meeting rooms of the Courtyard Marriott hotel.
All baggage must be properly and clearly labelled with the name of the teacher and the community assigned.
No refrigerated or frozen food will be picked up. You will have to bring your refrigerated or frozen items directly to the Air Inuit Cargo (800 Bd Stuart Graham Suite 110, Dorval, QC).

✈️ Travel to Nunavik
Travel to Nunavik
In most cases, travel to your destination community will be arranged on Saturday, August 8th. Those staying at the hotel will have rooms available to them until their departure.
🧾 Travel Claims
Staff hired from outside of Nunavik and staying at the hotel.
To claim your expenses related to the 2026 New Teachers Orientation, you will have to complete two different travel claims; Social and Business. Ask your Principal for support in completing these claims.
Social
The social Travel Claim is for expenses from your point of departure to your Nunavik community, excluding the time spent at the hotel.
This claim is for Kativik employees and their dependants.
Please consult the policy for eligible expenses and supporting documents.
This travel claim has to be completed on the INIGA platform. Don’t forget to claim your daily incidentals. The approver for this claim is School Operations.
Business
The Business Travel Claim is for expenses from the time of check-in (August 4th for most) to the time of check-out (August 8th).
This claim is for Kativik employees only. Dependants expenses during that time is the employee’s responsibility.
You should not include:
- Expenses for dependants
- Provided lunches
- Breakfasts for those staying at the Residence Inn side of the hotel (provided)

This travel claim has to be completed on the INIGA platform. Don’t forget to claim your daily incidentals. The approver for this claim is Judith Michel.

The Social Travel Claim is for expenses from your point of departure to your Nunavik community, after the in-person Orientation event is completed.
This claim is for Kativik employees and their dependants.
Please consult the policy for eligible expenses and supporting documents.
This travel claim has to be completed on the INIGA platform. The approver for this claim is School Operations.
Business
The Business Travel Claim is for
- Incidentals from Tuesday to Friday.
- Transportation to and from the hotel if applicable.

This travel claim has to be completed on the INIGA platform. Don’t forget to claim your daily incidentals. The approver for this claim is Judith Michel.
Staff hired in Nunavik and staying at the hotel.
To claim your expenses related to the 2026 New Teachers Orientation, you will have to complete a Business travel claim. Ask your Principal for support in completing these claims.
The Business travel claim covers expenses from and back to your Nunavik community and the time spent at the hotel.
This claim is for Kativik employees only. Dependants expenses during that time is the employee’s responsibility.
You should not include:
- Expenses for dependants
- Lunches
- Breakfasts for those staying at the Residence Inn side of the hotel is provided
