Interrogative Pronouns

Rule #37

Interrogative pronouns are not a homogeneous group. Only suna and kina can occur in any number and case.

Some postbases and tails can be added to interrogative pronouns.

Adding a noun extender to an interrogative pronoun produces a noun stem. Adding a verb maker to an interrogative pronoun produces a verb stem. Adding a tail to an interrogative pronoun does not change the category.

Examples:

  • kina-api-u-vit?
  • nallia-ngu-va?
  • nallingi-u-vat?
  • qatsi-u-vat?
  • qatsi-ngur-pat?
  • qanur-li?
  • sunamil-luuniit
  • sugami-li-kiaq?
