Overview
In this lesson developed by the Arctic Eider Society, students work in groups to develop an arctic marine food web. Groups then move through the classroom viewing each others’ food webs and adding their own information. They will understand the interconnected nature of ecosystems and human’s place in them.
1. Trophic Levels
Students learn about the roles of producers, consumers and decomposers (trophic levels) within the food web and find examples for each type.
2. Food Web
Using the resources, groups of students list animals and organisms to create their own food web. Groups of students can then improve each others’ web.
3. Critical Thinking
Students are encouraged to further their reflection on food webs and to reinvest their knowledge through a series of critical thinking questions.
