A word, any word, combines a number of basic sounds in order to express a more or less complex meaning.
It is possible to make clear pauses between words: any two words may have a pause between them.
But one cannot pause in the middle of words: when a speaker hesitates in the middle of a word, (s)he generally starts anew, returning to the beginning of the word.
Inuktitut speakers have an intuitive knowledge of word boundaries. In writing, words are separated by spaces.
