In Nunavik Inuktitut, it is a fact that no group of two consonants can follow another group of two consonants in the same word.
Examples
- ullaakut (not
ullaakkut) - qannituq (not
qannirtuq) - kuutjuamiut (not
kuutjuarmiut) - natsisiurunnangittuq (not
natsirsiurunnangngittuq)
This fact is specific to Nunavik Inuktitut and to Nunatsiavut Inuktitut. It stems from a rule that developed by itself in the early 20th century.
